Marble-look porcelain on every wall and across the floor, with a niche and a bench built into the shower rather than added on afterwards. The pan is a fine mosaic laid to a linear drain, and the frameless glass went in last so it could be cut to the tile that was actually there.

The same kitchen across about three months. The wall cabinets were already off in the first photo, which is why the old adhesive lines are showing. The second is cabinets set with the peninsula still being framed. By the third the counters, the stacked tile backsplash and the pendants are in, and the stone runs down the end of the peninsula instead of stopping at the edge.

The mixing valve behind this shower had to come out, and the only way to it was through the tile. New valve and fittings went in, then the enclosure was re-tiled in large-format porcelain. The second photo is mid-install, with the original small tile still up on the right-hand wall for comparison.

Working the front elevation of a large two-story house off ladders. Height is the part of a job like this that homeowners underestimate, and it is the reason to ask any contractor for their license and their insurance certificate before a ladder goes against the wall.

Staining spreading across a domed ceiling above a stairwell. The leak gets found first on a ceiling like this, because filling and painting over damp board only means doing the whole thing again in six months. Access is the other half of the job, two stories up over a staircase.

The bulkhead over this island came open to get at what was running through it, new cans went into the tray ceiling, and the island was taken back to be rebuilt. The existing cabinets, counters and appliances stayed put, which is usually the cheaper way to change how a kitchen feels.

Wall and base cabinets hung and leveled, the corner carousel in, and the run left open for the counter template. This is the stage where a cabinet set that is out by an eighth turns into an expensive countertop problem, so it gets shimmed and checked before anyone measures.

A heavy cast lantern hung off decorative cast stone, reached from staging. The anchors have to land in something that will hold the weight without splitting the molding, which takes a lot longer than it looks from the driveway.
